TIS Acoustic Showdown #2 updates

Heyya peeps..

Because of you guys, TIS Acoustic Showdown #2 was a huge success.. You guys rock!! The event sees 5 different talented performers, ranging from different genres of music, which again, is too diversified, its pretty hard for us to categorized.. But we guess that's what it is now right? Hybrids..

The event kicked off about 9 ish, seeing half of Laila's Cafe & Lounge filled up already.. The night started with the band Reaxi, seeing 5 dashing rockstars doing their thing.. It was pretty light and easy, with groove.. They did their original numbers, and covers from Sheila on 7.. It was a relaxing start..

Moving on to Paid in Fiction, or fondly known as PIF.. An astounding band consist of 7 band members, but for their acoustic set that night, sees only 4 of the band members and an 'import'.. Playing most of their impressive originals, they covered A Perfect Circle's Imagine and it was smashing! Their set was groovy and filled with awesome progressions.. Also, they were the only band who had the projector playing a slide show for their 'Let Me Be Me' song, a song dedicated to the war children.. It was not only beautifully written, but the slide show added alot more emotion to the song.. They rocked the stage!

Up next was Fish Eye, the newly formed band late last year.. They played all originals that night.. Far from their full set, their acoustic was mind blowing, with so much of progression going on, to the screeching vocals to their instrumental number, and the dynamics they portrayed, it was heart moving.. Not only an explosive start (literally - they blew up the bass amp's plug head! ouch - sorry alif), they ended their set with a ravishing song with a nice cool off to end of their dynamic progression from the start of their set till the end..

Dzamira Dzafri was the only solo former and boy, she has the voice!! She could sing high and low at ago.. It was an impressive show she had, mainly covers.. She played 3 covers, leaving the crowd wanting for more.. For just one girl, a voice and her guitar, it was rocking!

Last but not least, the grooviest, harmony driven vocals, and mini drum set on stage, Ilustrasi ended the event just nice and kicking.. Soothing music, all lovey dovey, but beautifully arranged in a way leaving people clapping and singing along.. It was magnificently serenading..

Just in time for the performers to entertain the crowd, the place was full house.. We apologize for the not-enough-chair situation.. You guys were rocking the house down!! Awesome possum.. Once again, we take this opportunity to thank all performers and rockers in the house for giving us such a tremendous support.. You guys rock! \m/

Our very first acoustic night round up

Hey ya peeps..

We apologise for our out most delayed updates!! We sincerely apologize for all the lambat lambats due to our crazy scheduling and stuff.. But here goes..

Our very first acoustic showdown was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.. We thank each and everyone for turning, and of course our talented performers.. It started of slow, with relaxing soothing music from Wide Eyed, a brother sister duo who did a couple of covers and an original.. They were simply fabulous.. We can't deny the strong vocals of Chu Yeah, and the simple yet full playing by her brother Chu Ern..
It then proceeded to the next solo performance, Basil Foo, who's very contemporary Jason Mraz kinda guy.. He did all covers, yet he added his own elements into the whole performance giving it a taste of Basil.. Cheesy! But this dude, he literaly covered Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" in Bahasa Malaysia.. How cool can that get? It was fabulous!
Right on to Rizal, our Malaysian country-boy, did mainly covers, which comes with a lot of fun, sing alongs, and a groupie! He was all hee hee haa haa, but I tell ya, he has skills.. With all the guitar playing, the harmonica, the funny being he is, it was really entertaining..
Moving along to a budding artiste, Psytrus, or fondly known as Madaan, he played couple of his originals as well as covers.. Do not underestimate this guy by his look and size, he could carry high notes really well.. And he has so much of groove into the music, that makes it all sound so bluesy and cliche! Awesome possum!!
The last performance of the night was from the band Instake.. Fully grunge on band, they did a surprising twist to their acoustic set, showing of the intimacy of music playing and togetherness as a band.. It was whole yet rockish! They did a couple of covers, one of our Creative Director's favourite band, Stone Temple Pilot.. They rocked the stage.. \m/
About 50 or so people turn up at Laila's and it was great for our first acoustic, mainly TIS's comeback for 2010.. We're looking forward to our second acoustic night, coming 20th March 2010, at Laila's.. Overlooking more bands to perform then.. Stay tuned for more updates ya'll..

Hey peeps!

Its now all set for the 19th of December! Mark your calender, and ready to rock with more than 60 artistes in 3 different stages in Hyyptunes Rock The World 9!!

During the press conference, Executive Vice President of Consumer, TM, Jeremy Kung talked a little about hypptunes, where its an online music portal, which offers legal full-track music downloading facilities with an array of songs from local and international artistes. Also present, CEO of Fat Boys, Mohamed Zahid Yon (who's the vocalist of Disagree btw) talked a little on the Bandsearch competition.

In conjunction with the RTW9, TM and Fat Boys will also be going on a nationwide road-show in search of local undiscovered talent through this competition. The winners from each venue will get a chance to strut their stuff at RTW9! To register for the Bandsearch competition, participants will have to log on to www.hypptunes.com.my or www.rocktheworld.com.my and submit a demo of the band. So check it guys if you guys are up for it aight?

Heyya peeps!

In conjunction with TIS Night #4 sees a colourful series of events..

First and foremost, we would like to thank each and everyone for turning up at Urbanattic for our event.. Also we would like to thank the bands for coming down with their equipments and stuff.. We also like to thank Phaddil for the support and we're really sorry about the cable issue too!! We also like to thank Urbanattic for the compensation to the bands and all..

Now, we would like to apologize to each and everyone, especially the bands, Phaddil (with the running up and down for the cables!! appreciate so much!!) and the crowd (thats everyone!!) for the cancellation of the event.. Due to the "UNFORSEEN FUCKING CIRCUMSTANCES", the dogs (DBKL) had to choose today to ransack Urbanattic during the performance of the first awesome band, Creamson.. Apparently, there are many versions to the story of the cancellation.. We dare say its all connected and it boils down to the same issue, the political shit of many parties.. Without futher contamination added into the soup, we would solely take responsibility to the cancellation and we're really sorry about everything..

BUT!! You'll be hearing from us real soon for the next TIS Nights.. We promise to make it bigger, better, awesomer and all the ers.. We'll update you guys real soon!!

TIS has couple of announcements to make.

1. We're stopping production of our print starting issue 3 till end of the year. Due to man power difficulties and the time needed to work on our website, we have no choice but to cut down the workload as it is. 2. TIS Night #4 is coming to life this coming 5th November 2009 (Thursday) at Urbanattic, Capsquare from 9pm onwards.. Bands line up for TIS Night #4 is brought to you by a personal friend of ours, Oh Chentaku's drummer, Adib. Flyers are on its way! Stay tuned for that!

3. TIS is the official partners with Voize.my for the upcoming VIMA 2010. And TIS is gonna showcase a band from all of our TIS Night gig on the grand finals of VIMA 2010. Information on the voting system will be up real soon. Hang on tight with that!

TIS night # 3 bands

Psytrus is a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy. Having been in the indie scene for the past 3 years as frontman of Slunk (now on hiatus), Psytrus has now embarked on a new musical journey of self discovery. Trading the electric guitar and the expansive gadgetry for an acoustic guitar, Psytrus is baring all. Never being the one afraid to experiment, expect to hear sounds influenced by the alternatives 90's, the psychedelic 60's and the kitchen sink.
Having made some waves playing solo acoustic, Psytrus is slowly making his way back into the band scene. His backing band, The Third Party, (named after an inside joke) consists of Daniel (guitar), Kevin (drums) and Chu (bass).
Whether it's Psytrus solo, or Psytrus and The Third Party, it boils down to the story of a man and his guitar, with lyrics from teh heart and music from the soul.

Paid In Fiction is back on TIS night stage! Consists of 5 band members, Emma (vocals), A.D (guitars), Faiz (vocals/guitars), Alif (bass) and Shah (drums) with additional sessioning members Rebecca (keyboards) and Ivan (violin) filling in the soundscape.
All of them with different musical influences gather their resources and creativity, expressing themselves through the band's music of weird riffs, thoroughfares filled with crashing beats, lonely alleyways haunted by echoing bass slaps and a voice, siren-like, steering mesmerizing seafarers to their deaths.

S.a.D, formed in the late 2007 consists of 3 band members Adam Lewis (main vox/bass), Didi (backing vox/lead guitar) and Adib (drums), all bandmates are mutual friends. Having to play together here and there with various other bands. But they basically meet at common ground, through music. So they decided to just start a fresh, and they group up and started making music.
Categoring themselves in a mix genre of modern rock/new metal, Adam the vocalist and bassist says that it's pretty hard to explain and that their stuff are crunchy sounding yet mellow. But overall Adam says that they're generally noisy and heavy sounding.
Having them launching their EP last 1st September in Urbanattic, the EP sees 6 tracks on the CD.

TIS night # 2 - the guilty parties

Slugsworthy

Slugsworthy consists of 6 band members, Kabul (vocals), Chip (guitar), Mie (Drums), Farouk (bass), Rina (keys) and F Sharp Zero (Samples). March 2007 marked the spot where the band was officially born . Slugsworthy is heavily influenced by the sound of jazz and funk.
The band explains the name was born when they compare their music to the rest of Malaysian underground bands which played mostly Indie, Metal & Rock, thus to identify them as fast paced music as opposed to their signature style which is slow (sluggish) but acceptable to all (worthy). They will be releasing their first E.P entitled Down To Earth soon. A 5 track E.P, containing... City Lights, Mr. Deeds, Poison, Love Potion No 10, and Pergi... kembali.

Goodbye 20th Century!

Goodbye 20th Century!(formerly known as Minotaur & The Labyrinth), consists of 5 band members, Emma (Voices), Andri (Guitar), Cammo (Fretboard terror), Shah ( Bass) and Najib (Drums).
The band stated their outfit as a cross between indie rock-ness and abrasive fuzzed out noise of love aches and heartbreaks and celestial nightmares. Songs move from pop sweetness to odd time shoutouts to full dissonant dirges that echoes that blood,sweat & tears that went into creating the music.

Effigy Eclipse

Discover the melodic death/black metal band, Effigy Eclipse. Consist of 5 young music enthusiasts, Ted (Vox), Anwar (Guitar), Mukriz (Guitar), Skum (Bass) and Black (Drums). They are musically influenced by different kind of music, ranging from Taylor Swift (we’re not kidding, they’re so serious about it!) to In Flames to Marilyn Manson.
The band is in the midst of recording their single now. With a unique blend of muhibbah-ness into their creativity, they call their single “Arwah” but the lyrics to the song are in English. Up to date, they have not think about launching just yet, they’re more focus in getting as much gig to showcase their music output and their versatility.

Paid In Fiction consists of 5 band members, Emma (vocals), AD and Faiz (Guitars), Alif (Bass) and Shah (Drums). All of them with different musical influences gather their resources and creativity, expressing themselves through the band’s music of weird riffs, thoroughfares filled with crashing beats, lonely alleyways haunted be echoing bass slaps and a voice, siren-like, steering mesmerizing seafarers to their deaths.

FETUS
Fetus consists of 4 band members, Lian Sia (Vocals), Ving (Guitars), Yuen (Bass) and Kiu (Drums). The band was formed towards the end of 2005, Fetus is heavily influenced by the Japaneses Eroguro Band, Mucc. They went on writing stuff together, having performed in many places around Kuala Lumpur. Their music are more about family relationships, to losing itself in life, to the hidden topic about AV culture. They always trying in playing something dark yet bright with incite lyrics to wake up the forgotten stories.

FLIRTING WITH SLEEP
Flirting With Sleep consist of 5 band members, Maryam (Vocals), Teoh (Guitars), Jack (Bass), Ling (Keyboard) and Ian (Drums). Having the band with a new and the latest line up, the band is set to blow people’s mind every time they play live. The band’s music may be hard to define to a specific kind of sound, but the band’s musical influences are like Labyrinth, Tool, Bjork, Fional Apple to name a few.

FISH EYE
Fish Eye consist of 2 band members, Becs (Vocals / Guitars) and Faiz (Drums). The band was formed just a little less than two weeks, they have already set five full songs to their list. Coming from opposites worlds, they click on common ground making dark-melodic-off timing compositions. For TIS Night, the band is featuring Madaan from the band Slunk as their bassist. It has been an awesome day out for us TIS-ers!! We had a great interview this morning with BFM and we would like to thank the people of BFM and Annie who scout us on our launch night!! Thank you guys.. You guys rock!! And thanks to those who tuned in and thank you for your sms-es and calls..

Next stop, a short meeting or should we say seminar.. We didn't stay for long though and soon after we head to Mega Mall to kill some time before attending tonight's event, KLue +5 where we're gonna interview the boys of 15malaysia, Pete Teo, Lim Benji & Bahir Yuessof..

Meantime, we are chilling at Chilis, making fun of each other, while still talking business!! Woohoo!! Will update soon on what's coming your way!! TIS-out!!

TIS Street Paper launch short review

TIS Street Paper Soft Launch - 15th August 2009

Launched on a cozy Saturday night at Urbanattic, Capsquare, the launch sees various things happening at the same place! Having from an indie film screening, to a fashion show, to an awesome line up of bands installed for each and every supporters of TIS!!

The night started a little late at about 8.40pm with the indie movie screening of "Session To The Womb", directed by Sharifah Soraya Syed Ahmad, a final year film student at Akademi Seni Kebangsaan (ASWARA).

The launch then proceeded to the much awaited fashion show, showing off some of Ed Hardy's best-est funky street style clothing line, seeing TIS team walking down the runway. Having Ed Hardy's in-house stylist Ez Azren, the show went down in style ya'll...

Lastly, an awesome line up of bands where show case in the last segment, seeing bands like Markiza of Soft Touch, Azmyl Yunor & The Sigarettes, Kyoto Protocol, Goodbye 20th Century, Deserters, Oh Chentaku and RAV.

Having one hell of an MC, T'Xtrano (TX), rapping away, creating this hyped amongst the crowd, the whole epxerience exceeded our expectations!! With this, we wanna thank each and everyone who made it happen, our sponsors, our hardworking teammates, our friends and family, everyone!! Thank you thank you!!

Firstly, today sees the launching of 15malaysia, one of the articles featured on our first issue. 15malaysia, proudly presents 15 socio-politically themed short films, directed by some of the country's coolest directors and personalities. Hey you guys out there!!

First and foremost, we are overjoyed and are very greatful with the response and support we get! We wanna thank each and everyone who turned up, we would like to thank our sponsors Ed Hardy for an awesome line up of clothes for the fashion show, we would like to thank Absolut for the bottles, we would like to also thank skin food for the goodie bags of facial stuffs, and of course urbanattic for a venue that rocks!!

IT IS CONFIRM!!!! TIS is having our kick-a$$ launch this coming 15th August!! And we're really really excited and of course working really really hard to make things work!!

TIS would like to give a sneak peak from one of the inside scoop of our first issue. It is a continuation edition of this event to our lifestyle What's Hot column! So check this out!

Introducing KL Ink, (ala Miami Ink la, LA Ink la, London Ink la)the Malaysian ink party happening this July 31st, at Boiler Room (next to coffee bean) in Hartamas Square. Basically KL Ink is a club night party for people with Tattoos (and none)!! The party invites you to share your experience, show your art and party the night away with some fabulous local DJs lik Dj A.W.A.D, DJ Vic C, and more. The catch of the whole event is the lucky draws where you can win free permanent tattoos!! Check it out ya'll!!

KL Ink was created in 2008 to celebrate Tattoos as what it truly is - an Art with our bodies as canvases! Hence, its an art and music festival.
They have exhibited talented tattoo artists from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. But they're not stopping there and are working to bring more in.
KL Ink is a first of its kind event held at a club with live inking thrown in.

Due to our crazy preparation of proposals, contents, and more stuff, we over looked that we haven post any updates on gigs!! There's one straight out of the oven for you guys!! Check this out..

Soundscape Records proudly presents In-Transit warm-up show at Urban Attic, on 28th July which is practically happening tonight ya'll!!!

The In-Transit warm-up show will also feature The Stabs, The Holy Soul and Cuba is Japan, the three Melbourne-based bands who will also be performing at the Music Terminals Festival.

Also in the line-up are local electronic artists Rainf, Silent Keat and Forbiddenculture.

Showtime is 8pm. Admission is RM20 (includes one drink), tickets are available at the door.

Hey you peeps!!

After 7 days of just the birth of TIS, the team has not taken a proper day rest or fun!! So after much consideration, the team decided to have soon to be an weekly sports-day-a-week outing!! You can check out more pictures on our flickr..

Also, we wanna give our gratitude to our soon-to-be-personal-assistant-after-our-big-fat-pay-check friend, Matthew Ho. Thanks for your fantastic input and support towards TIS Street Paper. Now, you're gonna be in trouble!! You're on our speed dial!!

To everyone out there too, we've been distributing flyers on the birth of TIS and a sneak peak towards Issue #1.. We would like to thank each and everyone of you guys!! You guys rock TIS world!!

We have came across something exciting for everyone to do for the upcoming weekend..

"THE" Indie Youth Fest is here again! The concept behind the Independent Youth Festival is centered around youth doing things for themselves, being free to explore and discover things that they are passionate about. Indie Youth Fest organizer, Go International Group Sdn Bhd, provide you the platform for you to catapult from... so that you can go international!

They're kick-starting their 2009 season this upcoming Saturday and Sunday, 1st and 2nd August 2009, in One Utama shopping center. Be sure to be there, as they have fun-filled exciting progams installed for you guys:

RIP Yasmin Ahmad

Dear readers,

It is confirmed that award winning film director Yasmin Ahmad has died. It is a tragic fact and a great loss to the country's entertainment and movie industry.

According to the reports on Star's website, Yasmin died from massive bleeding in the brain at the Damansara Specialist Hospital. She died at 11.25pm yesterday following a surgery due to her collapse at the Seri Pentas on Thursday. Yasmin never regained consciousness after being admitted into the intensive care unit. Burial is scheduled for today expected to be before zohor. The 51-year-old creative director was famed for her advertisements and films capturing the essence of racial harmony in Malaysia.

Hosted by Bo, it’s a night where obscure music takes center stage along with current pop culture. It’s all about indie music ranging from all sorts of genres such as jazz, rock, folk and acoustic.

Connecting the dots

After a strenuous calorie-burning game of futsal at Sports City in PJ, 'hunger strikes'. The clock then was 12.01am and at this very hour we succumbed our appetite for fast food to boost up our habitual late night TIS meeting. Treadmill is not an option tomorrow.

As usual, laptop, pieces of notes, content outlines, creative ideas, articles, ball pens and a camera among other things in position.

We’re running ahead upon connecting the dots of soon-to-be-released TIS Street Paper issue #1.

So be aware of the upcoming release date TISers!

Heyya peeps..

This might be really interesting to those indie film makers, producers!!

15malaysia is a 15 socio-politically themed short films about Malaysia featuring some of the country's coolest directors and personalities. The project is produced by Pete Teo and the team that brought you MAFU last year. Rotterdamn International Film Festival has accepted all 15 films in 15malaysia for the competition on 2010. 15malaysia is aiming to reach 10,000 fans by the time they launch the event. So gear up people and add them as fan!!15malaysia short films and videos could be found in youtube, the official site, ruumz, blogs, and twitter. Lets do our best and support them full!!

Release date of TIS Street Paper

Heyya folks..

After much consideration the TIS team has decided that the street paper would be a monthly newsletter which will be issued out on every 15 of the month!! So hang on lads, we're distributing the very first issue of TIS Street Paper on the 15th of August.. Woohoo!!

Venues of distribution would be a surprise which we would update from time to time. Early birds receives goodies, while those who won't be around to get a hard copy of TIS, not to worry, as we'll have most of the articles out here on web.

So hang on guys, the very first issue would be out real soon, and stay tune for more updates!!!

Oh Chentaku Album Launch

TIS is introducing one of Malaysia's impressive indie band, Oh Chentaku's album launch, happening on the 26th July 2009 at Eighty-Four Cube Studio Gallery in Ampang. To check out more of the band Oh Chentaku and their happenings, log onto their site at www.myspace.com/ohchentaku.

Hi everyone,

Introducing the latest street paper in town!

TIS is a street paper, or what more similar to an average newsletter which supports the indie scene, not only in Malaysia but the neighbouring country and the rest of the countries in the world. It is a mere platform for togetherness in creativity to expand and create a better mind and vision. With the tagline of "we're not creating, we're innovating", we apply that concept to every issue of our street paper.

TIS; The Indie Scene, was form in July 2009 by two music enthusiast from the KL indie scene. Having said, the two individuals, Faiz and Becs are from the creative line, ranging from music to flim making. TIS is a free monthly street paper, more like a guidebook of the happenings of the indie scene in mainly Kuala Lumpur, which contains information on music, film, fashion, food to name a few.

We include various kind of events, tagged along with the monthly street paper, which will be from time to time, which varies from competitions, contests, gigs, film screenings and much more. On a bigger scale, we're looking into developing the bigger picture and outlook of the indie scene and to bring together a whole lot of new medium, from print to web.
